Diagnosed properly. Quoted once.

A photo inspection report before anything is touched, a published labour rate, and an estimate that does not move after you approve it. You decline the lines you do not want and nobody rings back to push.

Describe it

Nobody knows the part name. Everybody knows the noise.

Pick what your car is doing and you get the likely cause, how urgent it is and roughly what it starts at — before you speak to anybody or hand over the keys.

Most likely

Pad material is gone and the backing plate is on the rotor.

Once it grinds, the pad is finished and you are cutting into the rotor face. Left another fortnight it usually turns a pad-and-rotor job into a caliper job as well, because the piston has extended far enough to pass its seal.

Before we quote

You see what the technician saw.

The reason people distrust garages is that the evidence stays under the car. Every visit here produces a photo report first, sorted into what needs doing, what will need doing, and what is fine — and you approve it line by line.

Declining a line has no consequence. It does not get raised again on collection.

01

It goes on the lift

Every visit starts with the same 42-point look, whatever you booked for.

02

Everything gets photographed

Findings are shot on a phone, not described. You see the same thing the technician saw.

03

It arrives before we quote

Report by text or email with three columns: needs doing, will need doing, and fine for now.

04

You choose the line items

Approve or decline each one. Nothing outside what you approved gets touched.

Makes serviced

Twelve regularly. Most others happily.

Where a job genuinely needs a dealer-only tool we will say so before booking rather than after the car is apart.

What people say

Mostly about what we did not charge for.

Sent photos of the worn bushes before quoting. Dealer had told me it was the whole subframe.

K. Marchetti

Suspension, 2019 Forester

Declined two of the four items on the report and nobody argued or rang me back to push.

D. Ellery

Service, 2016 Civic

Diagnostic fee came off the bill exactly like they said it would.

Questions

The four we get every week.

Will servicing here void my warranty?+

No. A manufacturer cannot require dealer servicing to keep a factory warranty valid, provided the correct parts and intervals are used. We service to the manufacturer schedule and give you documentation that records it.

Why is there a diagnostic fee?+

Because diagnosis is the work. A scan tool reads a code in thirty seconds; finding what caused it takes a technician, a road test and often a scope. The fee is credited against the repair if you go ahead here.

Can I supply my own parts?+

Yes, and we will fit them. The labour warranty stands on its own in that case, because we cannot warrant a part we did not source or inspect.

Do you work on European makes?+

Most of them, and we will tell you honestly when a job needs a dealer tool we do not have rather than take the car apart and find out.

How long will you keep my car?+

Diagnostics are usually same day. Anything needing parts depends on the supplier and you get a time when the report goes out, not after.

Book it

What is it doing, and when can you leave it?

You get a time and a diagnostic slot back, not a “someone will call you”.
